About:
- Blair Hornstine has always been committed to achieving outstanding goals throughout her life. When she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that left her unable to attend high school as a normal teenager, she was forced to complete her schooling at home. For anyone else this might have severely inhibited their desire to excel, yet for Ms. Hornstine her diagnosis fueled a drive that was ultimately unparalleled by anyone in her class. She finished high school with the highest GPA in her class of more than 350 students.
Hornstine went on to study Classical Studies at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where she felt she’d be able to enjoy some of her fondest passions-the beach, the ocean, and towering sea cliffs. She graduated from St. Andrews with a Master’s Degree with distinction, and a year later was accepted to Juilliard School of Music. There she practiced her singing, a dream she had always had but never realized until then. In addition to her scholarly success, Ms. Hornstine has also always been committed to helping others. She formed MAGIC in 1994, an organization that provides assistance for women who are young, elderly, or underprivileged, and has since been dedicated to helping people in need.
Ms. Hornstine’s disease has only made her will stronger. Although she has always been a giving and caring person as her long list of charitable works demonstrates, her ailment has propelled her to help those in need at an even more effective level. Blair is now studying to become an attorney, and her ultimate goal is to be able to represent people from her community who cannot help themselves or do not have the means to defend their personal rights. Her disease showed her what it felt like to be defenseless, and Blair now wishes to help those who are in the same position.
Due to an immune deficiency syndrome she has lived with since childhood, Blair Hornstine spent a significant number of her academic years at home with tutors. Although some might consider her non-traditional educational setting to be a hindrance to social development, Blair Hornstine is living proof that a young adult who learns independently can become a great community leader and an inspiring role model.
Blair has excelled in virtually all aspects of her academic career and was named the Valedictorian of Moorestown High School. Today, she pursues a law degree to be conferred in May 2010. Blair, an accomplished vocalist, already possesses a Master’s degree in Classical Studies, and over the years, she has held a number of leadership roles in student government and student activities.
Although her home was the setting for most of her special education classes and tutoring sessions, Blair Hornstine, by no means, spent her entire childhood at home. Like her mother Linda, Blair Hornstine proved herself a community activist and neighborhood leader at a young age. Together with her brother, Blair Hornstine founded the Moorestown Alliance for Goodwill and Interest in Community (MAGIC), a community service group dedicated to improving Moorestown and creating a better and more cohesive community.
